PURPOSE: Candidates selected for the communications and social media internship will be exposed to communication tools and techniques used to advance ORAU’s mission in scientific workforce development and will interact daily with the team that provides communication support for ORAU’s Scientific Assessment and Workforce Development (SAWD) division. The purpose of this internship is to better prepare current students and recent graduates to compete for communications jobs after completion of the internship.
Successful candidates will become temporary employees of ORAU for 12 months and will participate in hands-on communications and social media activities under the mentorship of an ORAU SAWD professional. Additional ORAU intern activities may include learning about ORAU culture, policies and procedures, participating in team meetings, and interacting with other interns across ORAU.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Compose and edit text for publications, presentations, program literature, and products created for external and internal customers.
- Provide social media content for SAWD’s social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram
- Assist with social media campaigns and special events
- Support SAWD communication initiatives, as needed
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have completed an undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, broadcasting, journalism and electronic media, or marketing within the preceding 12 months. Successful candidates will have a basic knowledge of mass communication and social media techniques and will have coursework as evidence of the ability to apply this knowledge; will have strong written and oral skills; possess strong editing, organizational and proofreading skills; will be proficient in Microsoft Office programs, such as Word and PowerPoint, and social media platform tools; will display versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
