Database Support (Part-time) at EPA

The EPA Environmental Research and Business Support Program has an immediate opening for a part-time (up to 20 hours per week) Database Support position with the Office of Research and Development at the EPA facility in Cincinnati, OH.  The selected candidate shall aid in the development of an alternatives assessment database. The data will be obtained from a variety of literature sources including online databases, government websites, and journal articles. The goal is to obtain data for a variety of different hazard categories including acute mammalian toxicity, carcinogenicity, genotoxicity / mutagenicity, endocrine disruption, reproductive toxicity, developmental toxicity, neurotoxicity, repeated dose toxicity, skin sensitization, eye irritation, dermal irritation, acute aquatic toxicity, chronic aquatic toxicity, persistence, and bioaccumulation. Some computer programming might be required to manipulate data files and to download data from online sources. Additional duties include administrative duties required to support and maintain a robust innovative program.

  • Part-time, $21.11 per hour;
  • Must have earned at least a Bachelor’s  degree  in  engineering,  toxicology,  chemistry,  bioinformatics,  statistics, computational biology, math, physics, information science or a closely related field of study from an accredited university or college within the last 24 months;
  • Experience in manipulating data using Microsoft Excel;
  • Experience with relational databases such as Microsoft Access or MySQL;
  • Experience with computer programming in Java;
  • Experience performing literature searches for scientific data; and
  • Strong communication skills (i.e., written, oral, telephone etiquette, presentation abilities);
