ORAU Heidelberg Laureate Forum

ORAU is again privileged to provide funding to support graduate students to attend the annual Heidelberg Laureate Forum in Heidelberg, Germany. We have sponsored students for this historic event for a number of years, and we are currently soliciting graduate student nominations in the fields of mathematics and computer science to attend the 6th Heidelberg Laureate Meeting to be held September 23-28, 2018.

  • US universities may nominate two students per university.
  • Deadline for nominations is December 8, 2017 at 5:00 p.m., Eastern Time

Selected students will have the opportunity to attend formal lectures and informal meetings with Heidelberg Laureate Forum laureates and young researchers from around the world.  Information on past meetings is available at .

 

The Heidelberg Laureate Forum is a gathering of laureates of some of the most prestigious prizes in mathematics and computer science, namely the Abel Prize and Fields Medal as well as the Turing Award and Nevanlinna Prize.  Held annually for a week in Heidelberg, Germany, the Heidelberg Laureate Forum brings these laureates at the apex of their careers together with 200 high-achieving graduate student and postdoctoral counterparts from around the world.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

Graduate student applicants must:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at an ORAU member institution;
  • Have completed by June 2018 at least two academic years of study toward a doctoral degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline; and
  • Be actively participating in a research project.

 

We are seeking nominations for a diverse group of students including, women, minorities and people with disabilities. Students must show a genuine interest in mathematics/computer science and research; display a strong commitment to the field of mathematics/computer science; and be a well-rounded individual who can converse with scientists and peers in a meaningful way.

 

The competitive selection process for the Heidelberg Laureate Forum occurs in three phases, starting with university nominations.
